For anyone that grew up in the 1980s and 1990s, you probably remember the show or heard of American Gladiators. This reality show before reality shows popped up all over the place and social media wasn’t even on the radar of people’s minds became a hit show for children and their parents. I don’t know why because it’s pretty brutal to be hit without adequate padding and solidly built obstacle courses. Hollywood was different back then and the creators of the show, Dann Carr and John Ferraro, didn’t have to worry as much as studios do now. American Gladiators ran from 1989 to 1997 and all but one gladiator made it through all the seasons.
This docuseries is a trip down memory lane. The 80s and 90s have been recycled again from movies to fashion. I’m waiting for the music scene to come back from that time period, but I don’t think I’ll be as lucky. This docuseries is five episodes and has a total running time of three hours and 28 minutes long. The first episode covers the origins of American Gladiators and the first Gladiators to be part of the show. The second episode covers the injuries and sacrifices made to stay relevant and not be replaced. The third episode covers the explosion of their popularity in the U.S. and around the world. The fourth episode covers the Gladiator tour across the U.S. and how it split the Gladiators into two groups. The fifth episode covers the legacy and inspiration of these athletes on future reality shows.
If you’re wondering or have forgotten some of the major Gladiators and those included in this docuseries, a partial list is below. If you’re wondering which Gladiator was in all the seasons. It would be Laser.

Raye Holitt as Zap
Danny Lee Clark as Nitro
Michael M. Horton as Gemini
Lori Fetrick as Ice
Jim Starr as Laser
Sha-Ri Pendleton as Blaze
Debbie Clark as Storm
Steve Henneberry as Tower
Shirley Eson as Sky
Deron McBee as Malibu
I give Muscles & Mayhem FOUR FINGERS and ONE THUMB at 100%.
