You have to give up to Netflix and other streaming services for picking up TV shows after they have been cancelled by any major TV network. In this case CBS dropped the show but there is at least some reason for this, which was COVID. However, other shows that get axed aren’t so lucky. Lincoln Lawyer is adapted from Michael Connelly’s books about a lawyer, Mickey Haller, that works out of his car. The show is created by Ted Humphrey and David E. Kelley. The first season debuted in 2022 and followed up with a solid second season in 2023. The show is rated TV-MA and stars Manual Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, Becki Newton as Lorna Crane, Angus Sampson as Dennis (Cisco) Wojciechowski, Jazz Raycole as Izzy Letts, Neve Campbell as Maggie McPherson, Krista Warner as Hayley Haller, Elliott Gould as Legal Siegal, Christopher Gorham as Trevor Elliot, and Lana Parilla as Lisa Trammell.
The first season begins with Mickey Haller getting back into to practicing law in Los Angeles after another lawyer, Jerry Vincent, is murdered. He is assigned all of his current cases including a high profile one of Trevor Elliot who is accused of murdering his wife and her lover. Helping him with his new schedule is his ex-wife, Lorna and her boyfriend, Cisco. They all work hard to prove Trevor Elliot did not murder his wife even though it is important to Trevor that people see him as innocent of this crime. As the trial moved forward at a quick pace, Mickey is also trying to find Jerry Vincent’s killer and make amends with his other ex-wife, Maggie. Mickey does what he does best even if the outcome isn’t what he intended. The last episode ends with someone watching Mickey while he’s surfing.
The second season begins with Mickey being attacked by two men and when he’s released from the hospital he meets Lisa Trammell, the owner of a restaurant. She is being targeted by Mitchell Bondurant for protesting his gentrification of her neighborhood. When he is found murdered, she is arrested as the prime suspect. This leads her to call Mickey and he becomes absorbed in her trial at the expense of his mother and those around him. Mickey is willing to not stir up more drama after the trial ends, but Lorna isn’t and even though she is divorced from Mickey, proves her loyalty and dedication. In the last episode, he will need this more than ever because finding the killer of Giselle won’t be easy for many reasons. Cue season three and more cases Mickey will have to prove in his clients’ favor.
I rate Lincoln Lawyer FOUR FINGERS and ONE THUMB at 100%.
