If you are in a chemical spill and you are a smoker, don’t light any cigarettes and put them out if you are smoking. If you are in a car, turn off heat or air conditioning and shut the windows. Cover your mouth with a dry towel or cloth. Don’t drive fast and get out of the car when you are half a mile away. Don’t touch anything when getting out and move away from your car as it is contaminated.
If you need to get around a car that is blocking you, fasten your seat belt and disable your air bag. Ram your passenger side of the car into the rear wheel or front corner of the other car. You should be going faster than 30 mph and when the car spins out of your way, step on the gas and escape.
If you are being followed in your car, get on a freeway if possible and drive a little slower than the speed limit. Allow cars to get behind you and keep doing this until you are far enough away from the car to get off the freeway safely. Keep making turns when off the freeway and pull into a parking lot. If you aren’t able to do this, drive to a police station.
If you need to search a room for a bomb, start at one height and move in concentric circles until you are finished with the whole room. If you find something, call 911 for the bomb squad.
If you need to carry a person to safety with two people, one person grabs the injured party under the knees while the other wraps his/her arms around the chest. Stand up at the same time and walk to safety.
If you have a fire in your oven, turn off the oven and close the oven door. Open the windows and try to contain the smoke that escaped. Keep the oven door closed so the fire dies down which is usually five minutes. By ten minutes, the fire should be completely out.
