If you need to walk on the ice until you are found, make sure you have a pole or long stick. Hold it across from your body in case you fall through the ice. Dirty ice is weaker than clean ice, and snow-covered ice is usually weaker than bare ice. If you know the ice is thin, crawl across it on your knees and hands.
If you need to put out a grease fire, turn off the stove and put a lid over the pan at an angle. Make sure you keep the lid in place until it cools. If you don’t have a lid, put baking soda on the fire. Things not to put on a grease fire is water and baking powder.
If you get your tongue stuck to a frozen pole, warm the pole with your hands/gloves around your tongue. Once it is warm, pull your tongue away from the pole. Don’t yank it off as it will rip even more skin off.
If you snore while sleeping, it’s better to lay on your side or stomach. Not eating right before bedtime and using nasal strips helps. Keeping your head higher than the rest of your body also helps.
If you have frostbite, remove your wet clothes. Put warm blankets around you if you don’t have warm water to use. Do not rub the skin when it is frostbitten. If you have blisters and pain, take pain relievers, and get medical help it is severe.
