From ocean waves and seagulls above, I am surrounded by the multicolored rocks I want to be able to move. There is no way for them to find a different home as all have been deeply rooted into this land. Harsh and beautiful to be outside at night and all alone without water. Even if I had the impulse to wade into the wet beyond, my body would not go far, and my arms would not paddle for long. The waves would deceive me into thinking they were cradling me. I am not a baby anymore to be taken care of nameless others. The waves do not know any difference between drowning and swimming. I would neither float nor sink. There is no place for me in the waves. Caught in the booms and bangs of a thunderstorm with my feet on solid ground. There is no more stink of sewage and garbage. The rain has cleansed my shoes. I take care of myself by dreaming of places I have seen. There is a blending of the two regions within us. The coarse sand on a beach and the smooth pebbles digging into my palms. There is a never-ending row of cacti on a dusty windowsill. I want to hear the sounds of nature instead of what is in my head. Too much water will kill and too much sun will wipe out the rest. We must exist to flourish. We can hear the truth on the other side of the waterfalls. There has to be open ears among the powerful creatures. Now is not the time to close our hearts to ourselves. I find myself locked away in peace. It is a fleeting moment, but I know it is real. You see it and feel it too. I know you hear something other than the obvious. When the rain drops hit your head. When the seagulls fly away for the night, there is no fear. They will return because they always do. This has been done before. This rise and fall. I feel less pain each time I am among the rocks. They remain behind me and no longer in my view when I close my eyes. I think of you inside of them but not on standing on top of them. You belong to the Earth like we do. This is another part of your legacy and now we have evolved into something painless.
