This is a TV mini-series about a man from the Netherlands that goes by many aliases, but actual name is Jonathan Meijer that was born in early 1980s. He became famous for all the wrong reasons. I surprisingly never heard of him until this documentary mini-series. His controversy comes from his numerous donations at fertility clinics and private donations across the world. It is estimated he has around 600 to 1000 children since 2007. His downfall came when a group of mothers filed a civil lawsuit against him for fathering so many children and violating the number of children you can have with your donations. The court ruled in the mothers’ favor, and he was instructed to stop donating to clinics and to private couples or single women that haven’t used him before in 2023. His reason for donating so many times isn’t out of the kindness out of his heart even though he tries hard to spin it in this way. What he did behind the scenes was pretty vile with his partner, Leon, and both saw their donations as a kind of savior type of action.
The punishment for continuing to donate to new prospective parent(s) is 100,000 Euros for Meijer. It became clear to the judge on her ruling that there were consequences of what Jonathan Meijer did to the parents he tricked and lied to and that was trauma that the children will go through when they know about their 600+ siblings they have around the world. While the reviews are mixed with the prospective mothers, it’s clear Jonathan Meijer had to be stopped. He’s not the typical narcissistic man because most men don’t do this or want to do this. He definitely preyed on the weakness of women and couples. There are two sides to every story, at least, but Jonathan wasn’t wanting to tell his side of the story. It’s a story some writers wouldn’t want to conceive (pun intended) and write because it’s so far-fetched and that’s what makes this story beyond interesting. Sure, he has great hair. Is this a good enough reason to have a child with him? I don’t think so. For me you need to have a lot more than great looking hair to convince me your worthy. I guess that is why I’m not in the predicament of having to tell my child s/he has 600+ blood related siblings.
I rate The Man with 1,000 Kids FOUR FINGERS and ONE THUMB at 100%.
