This is a great documentary because it has everything a documentary should have: realistic hardships, capitalistic successes, millionaire status excess, historical lessons about Cambodia, and the evolution of the donut industry also known to be contributing to the obesity in the United States, but they sure are tasty. The Donut King is written by Alice Gu and Carol Martori and directed by Alice Gu. It stars Ted Ngoy, Christie Suganthini, Chet Ngoy, Savy Ngoy, Chris Ngo, Mayly Tao, Chuong Pek Lee, Michelle Ly Sivutha, Susan Wahid, Amanda Tang, Adam Vaun, Daewon Song, Chhay Bun Ngoy, Dao Tak Lim, Annette Ngoy, Lena Lao, Gwendolyn Lao, and Olivia Cuff. What is clear is that Ted Ngoy for all he good he did was flawed. He cheated on his loyal wife, he became estranged from his children, and his gambling habits made those he helped see him as a narcissist more than anything else. What is also clear is he was a pioneer of his time and while some of his intentions came from a selfish place, he paved the way for what is happening currently in the donut industry. Everyone loves a donut, right?
