It’s interesting how people find certain topics interesting in the fact we find subjects intriguing that we know nothing about or didn’t care to learn when younger. Cheerleading and competitions are two things I’ve never really cared too much about. I’ve never been one to research more into how cheerleading works, but people understand about different pressures in their lives and especially in middle school. This true-life story about Shanna Holloway and her mother, Wanda, is interesting in that mother was a little bit too invested in her daughter’s career as a high school cheerleader. Of course, this documentary had to take place in Texas and include two girls that are best friends. It was their mothers of Shanna and Amber that couldn’t get along. What is clear is the jealousy of Wanda about how Amber is the model cheerleader to the judges over her daughter. Her quest to get her daughter on the cheerleading squad intensifies until she is caught in the act of attempted murder. After she is sentenced, the story continues, and Shanna is forced into the spotlight again on the talk show circuit. The impact on Shanna seems to be typical dysfunction in some child-parent relationships. While Wanda’s narcissistic behavior impacted not just herself, it appears by the end of this story that a zebra will always have stripes. Intriguing. Yes. Interesting. Yes. Unnecessary. Yes. Victims. Yes. Winners. None. Tragic. Depends on who you ask.
I rate The Texas Cheerleader Murder Plot FOUR FINGERS at 90%.
