Beware of the Stranger
This movie was supposed to be a TV series on Quibi, but it was short lived. Even a platform created by Jeffrey Katzenberg can fail. I suppose this answers the question of why there seemed to be missing transition points throughout the movie. I kept thinking there were certain scenes that seemed to jump too quickly to the next scene. There also seemed to be gaps when it came to the reasons how one of the main characters, Carl, knew certain information about the other major character, Clare. Despite this flaw, the story progressed well enough to keep me engaged. Of course, the acting of Dane DeHaan as a creepy passenger and Maika Monroe as the driver is reason enough to watch The Stranger. Carl seems innocent enough, but his true intentions are revealed and how a normal situation can get ugly really quick even in Los Angeles. Luckily, Clare finds someone to believe her story and now its two against one except Carl has LAPD on speed dial. The conclusion to Carl and Clare interaction was decent until the very end. This became a little jarring because I sort of felt I was transplanted into a scene of Game of Thrones if Jon Snow lived in Los Angeles.

Parting Comments on the Stranger
There were times I felt Carl had the ability to be invisible at the way he popped in and out of certain scenes. I also wondered the magnitude of his power over certain parts of Los Angeles, namely being one of the police precincts. Probably most people overlooked this fact, but it crossed my mind once or twice. Maybe, this was supposed to be explained more in season two but never got to that point because as I mentioned before Quibi is now defunct so no hope for season two. There were other details that were accurate as being placed on hold when calling 911 and Los Angeles residents liking their small dogs they can carry in their purses. Are there certain pitfalls only found in large cities like Los Angeles? Yes. Are there certain areas to visit unless you really need to? Yes. For all the posers, the majority of Los Angelenos are not fake. They are people with integrity that love eating a great taco.
I rate The Stranger FOUR FINGERS at 90%
