I quite wasn’t sure what to make of this documentary because it started off as a little cheesy. While the story focuses on an otter and a man living in a remote area of Scotland called the Shetland Isles, the relationship between the two turns out to be heartwarming. Billy Mail is a man who longs to have children but is unable to and then adopts a young starving otter in need he calls Molly. As the otter grows stronger so does Billy and his relationship with his wife, Susan, becomes more open and honest. They all form a bond and become a family including their border collie named Jade. The best part of the documentary is the ending where there is a definite turning point in their relationships and a better understanding of the next stage in their relationship. The phrase things happen for a reason is the basis of this documentary by Charlie Hamilton-James. It’s worth the watch if you’re needing a break from all the Superhero movies and 24-hour news cycles.
