Fosse/Verdon is the creation by Thomas Kail and Steven Levenson and based on the biography Fosse by Sam Wasson. For someone that knows little about Bob Fosse except he was a master at directing and choreographing Broadway musicals and knowing less about Gwen Verdon who was Fosse’s lifelong wife, supporter, and at one point muse, from the first episode to the last, this biopic mini-series was beyond great. I can’t express enough how much each scene was utilized to the fullest to showcase the complex relationship between Fosse and Verdon. From the success and the failures, the anxiety and the depression, the fragility and the strength, every interaction between Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams makes you feel as if you were watching the real Fosse and Verdon. Having such a close relationship inside and outside of the home causes unnecessary turmoil that lasts throughout their whole lives. Of course, it doesn’t help that Fosse was womanizer and alcoholic and Verdon wanted recognition her husband wasn’t willing to give. The additional cast in the eight episodes include Margaret Qualley as Ann Reinking, Norbert Leo Butz as Paddy Chayefsky, Paul Reiser as Cy Feuer, Jake Lacy as Ron, Kelli Barrett as Liza Minnelli, Ethan Slater as Joel Grey, Christiane Seidel as Hannah, Kelcy Griffin as Debbie Allen, and Juliet Brett as Nicole Fosse.
I rate Fosse/Verdon at FOUR FINGERS and ONE THUMB at 100%
