David Sedaris is the master of sarcasm and wit wrapped in humor and truth. This collection of short stories is a fast read. I bought this at a used bookstore only to make it more used by spilling water on the cover. I guess it made the stories even better. The subject matter is familiar to all of us with a human brain. The stories sometimes had abrupt endings but that’s what made the stories great to read. Each story deals with different kind of animals possessing human qualities and activities such as greed, sibling rivalry, misinterpretation, gift giving, addictive behaviors, competition, gossip, natural instincts, hunting, and differences of personality. The genius of this book is Sedaris’s ability to highlight the complete absurdity of some things people say and do and yet all the while lets the reader be aware in their own way of the darker consequences of human idiosyncrasies and follies especially when they go unchecked.
