Barry is a dark comedy/criminal driven drama that starts strong and ends with a satisfying finale. There are four seasons with eight 30-minute episodes in each season. It is created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader. The dialogue, fight scenes, casting, reactions, and whacky characters. are the reason Barry will be known as one of the best shows created by HBO. Barry is about a Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) trying to find himself while befriending a theatre acting coach Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler) in Los Angeles. The only problem is his profession is illegal and has to keep his identity of being a hitman a secret from the other theatre students.
The main cast includes Bill Hader as Barry Berkman, Stephen Root as Monroe Fuches, Sarah Goldberg as Sally Reed, Glenn Fleshler as Goran Pazar, Anthony Carrigan as NoHo Hank, Henry Winkler as Gene Cousineau, Sarah Burns as Mae Dunn, Robert Wisdom as Jim Moss and some of the supporting cast of Paula Newsome as Janice Moss, John Pirruccello as John Loach, Michael Irby as Cristobal Sifuentes, D’Arcy Carden as Natalie Greer, Chris Marquette as Chris Lucado, Karen David as Sharon Lucado, Dale Pavinski as Taylor Garrett, Marcus Brown as Vaughn, Jessy Hodges as Lindsay Mandel, James Hiroyuki Liao as Albert Nguyen, and Andrew Leeds as Leo Cousineau. Besides the great acting of the main and supporting cast and guest stars, my favorite character is NoHo Hank. All I can say is Barry is fast paced and worth watching even during the more emotional scenes.
Season one focuses on Barry’s contradictions as a hitman, his questioning what he has done with his life, and his new relationship with a woman named Sally Reed (Sarah Goldberg). Season two focuses on Barry trying to leave his past behind while trying to distance himself from his mentor Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root). Season three focuses on Barry and those closest to him trying to make different choices, but for some it’s too late. Season four continues to focus on the relationship between Barry and Gene while those who had the unfortunate chance and planned meetings with them find their lives altered permanently in some way.
I rate Barry FOUR FINGERS and ONE THUMB at 100%.
