This documentary covers the athletic greatness of Jim Thorpe. He was born in Oklahoma in 1887 and was of mixed ethnicity of European and Native. He excelled in most every sport and is considered one of the most accomplished athletes in history. He is known for playing football, baseball, and basketball during college. He also excelled in track, swimming, boxing, lacrosse, wrestling, and hockey in his lifetime. He set a world record in decathlon until 1948. He won two gold medals in the Olympic Games in pentathlon and decathlon in 1912. He was unjustly stripped of them in 1913, then restored his medals in 1983, and officially recognized as the only winner of both events in 2022 by the IOC.

In addition to all of his athletic achievements, he was a founding member of the NFL and served as its president from 1920 to 1921. Jim Thorpe died in 1953 in California where he was an advocate for Native athletes and Hollywood portrayal of Natives. Thorpe will continue to be remembered for upsetting Harvard in 1911 during a college football game and beating the Army team in 1912. Thorpe played Major League Baseball from 1913-15 and 1917-19. Thorpe was a two-time All-American. Thorpe was a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Thorpe was ranked the tenth greatest college football player of all time in 2019. Thorpe was voted as the greatest athlete in the first half century (ahead of Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey, and Ty Cobb) by the Associated Press in 1950. I don’t think I need to say anything more of Jim Thorpe. An athlete like him only comes around maybe once in a thousand years. As of today, there is no modern athlete close to what Jim Thorpe achieved with competing in the Olympics, playing pro football, and pro baseball.
I rate Jim Thorpe FOUR FINGERS and ONE THUMB at 95%.
