August 6, 2020: TV Show Review: Seinfeld (1989-1998)
Creators: Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld
Total Seasons: 9
Episodes in Each Season: 5 to 24
Rating: TV-PG
Running Time of Each Episode: 22 minutes except the last two episodes in season 9
I suppose this kind of humor you better understand more the older you get. I finally watched the whole series. My favorite character was George with Kramer a very close second. There could have been ten seasons if Jerry Seinfeld had not turned it down. For being a show about nothing, it was hilarious. The major cast members were Jerry Seinfeld as himself, Jason Alexander as George Costanza, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Elaine Benes, and Michael Richards as Cosmo Kramer
Recurring Cast: Ruth Cohen as Ruthie Cohen, Liz Sheridan as Helen Seinfeld, Phil Bruns (later replaced by Barney Martin) as Morty Seinfeld, Len Lesser as Uncle Leo, William Thomas, Jr. as Newman’s voice (later replaced by Wayne Knight as Newman), Norman Brenner as Man on Sidewalk, Heidi Swedberg as Susan Ross, Estelle Harris as Estelle Costanza, Jerry Stiller as Frank Costanza, Harris Shore as Mr. Lippman (later replaced by Richard Fancy), John O’Hurley as J. Peterman, Barney Martin as Morty, Deck McKenzie as Angry Man, Richard Herd as Wilhelm, Patrick Warburton as David Puddy, and Peggy Lane as Office Worker.

When Big Bang Theory premiered in 2006, none of the main actors and actresses knew how long the series would last or how big of a hit it would be to the world. It took me a while to get invested into the show (I see a recurring pattern here) and glad I continued with it. I think it really started to excel when Bernadette and Amy came along and complimented the group. I think it ended at the right time even though it would have been renewed for two more seasons. Whether roommates, friends, and couples, the group somehow centers around Sheldon Cooper’s needs. I thought the last two part episode was perfect ending to the series. I listed the best episode of each season and let’s all agree Howard Wolowitz, Amy Farah Fowler, and Barry Kripke were the funniest characters.

July 10, 2020: TV Show Review: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (2000-2015)
Quote by Gil Grissom
“I am sure if there is something out there looking down on us from somewhere else in the universe, they’re wise enough to stay away from us.”
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is show that premiered in 2000 that highlights the criminal cases detectives and forensics work on the night shift in Las Vegas, Nevada. The FBI Crime Lab in Quantico, VA is the biggest crime lab in America and they conduct requests ranging from DNA analysis, latent prints, trace, biology screening, controlled substances, and firearms/tool marks. The one glaring difference in this show compared to actual crime scene units is the ability of CSI to carry weapons, wear bullet proof vests, and perform certain duties normally police officers would conduct. A few of the later episodes get a little far fetched and the character I missed the most for several reasons is Warrick Brown when it ended. Otherwise than these things, it’s a great show.

July 8, 2020: TV EPISODE RECOMMENDATION: PHELPS VS SHARK: GREAT GOLD VS GREAT WHITE (2017)
When I read the reviews of this episode, many people were let down by Discovery Channel. The main reason being Michael Phelps was not swimming beside a Great White Shark. If you think about all the logistics needing to take place, this is not possible. When you add in the safety factor for both the shark and Phelps, I did a few eyebrow raises. The bottom line this is not possible and obviously some viewers are not well versed in shark behaviors. While I did see a shortened version of Phelps swimming against a computer generated shark over five years ago, it was not too impressive.
Which one is faster? Phelps or a Great White? You probably have already guessed the right answer, but I’m not going to say it. He also races against a hammerhead and reef shark. While the hammerhead measured at 15 mph, the great white can swim up to and more at 26 mph. To give Phelps even a glimmer of hope to winning, he was given a monofin and nice looking wetsuit but very thin. He did his best to swim like a shark and I did learn something from watching this. If I ever go swimming with the sharks, it is probably better to be in a thin cage than a bigger one. While the bigger cage gives you more space between you and the shark, the thinner one doesn’t have a chance of entering the cage with you. This is a must see, but I love sharks and most everything they do. It’s 60 minutes long and can watch it on Hulu.
June 27, 2020: TV Episode Recommendation: World’s Biggest Great White? (2019)
One of my dreams is to swim with sharks especially Great White sharks. Whether that actually happens remains to be seen, but it will probably just play out in my mind how awesome it would be for a while. This episode was part of Shark Week on National Geographic in 2019. The footage of three female Great Whites off the coast of Hawaiian island, Waikiki, was amazing to watch even on the screen and the photos the divers captured were what I’d call crispy clear. The divers/photographers were Kimberly Jeffries, Mark Mohler and Andrew Gray with Dr. Christopher Lowe who spoke of the eating behaviors of sharks among other things. It’s not hard to believe, but there is a pecking order when eating with sharks. After the encounters, they realized one of the sharks was Deep Blue based on her markings. She was around 20 feet or 6.1 meters and about 50 years old. She didn’t move as fast as other sharks due to her size and the divers thinking she was pregnant. People often think the Great White is the most aggressive shark but that belongs to the Bull shark. It reaches 7 to 11.5 feet or 2.1 to 3.5 meters and weighs 200 to 500 pounds or 91 to 225 kilograms and unlike most other sharks, they don’t mind freshwater and live in highly populated areas. Therefore, the chance for increased attacks on humans but all in all the chances of getting bitten or killed by a shark is 1 in 3.75 million chance. Putting this in perspective, you have around a 1 in 3.02 million chance of winning the Mega Millions and 1 in 2.93 chance of winning the Powerball jackpot. You basically have a better chance of having an extra finger or toe which is around 1 in 1,000 so there you go.

- Cretoxyrhina or Ginsu shark could get up to 24 feet or 7.3 meters. They had long sharp teeth and ate fish, marine animals, and dinosaurs.
- Pychodus shark could get up to 33 feet or 10 meters. Their teeth were flat and ate mollusks and shellfish.
- Otodus shark could get up to 39 feet or 11.8 meters. They also had sharp teeth and ate mainly whales.
- Helicoprion shark could get up to 39 feet or 11.8 meters. Their teeth were coiled in order crush prey easily.
- Megalodon shark could get up to 59 feet or 17.9 meters. Their long teeth ate whales and their bite force was projected to be 40,000 psi. Putting this into perspective the Nile crocodile has a bite force of 5,000 psi and the Tyrannosaurus Rex had a projected bite of 10,000 psi.

January 31, 2020: TV Review of Friends (1994-2004)
Quote by Chandler Bing played by Matthew Perry
“I”m not great at the advice. Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?”
I had been meaning to compile a list of my favorite episodes of Friends since last year and then the whole David Schwimmer debacle happened recently where a Living Single actress, Erika Alexander (I remember her from later The Cosby Show episodes as Pam Tucker) commented on his unawareness the show she was in came before his. I’m sure the creators gleaned some inspiration from it, but this doesn’t deny the humor and comical genius of Matthew Perry, Courtney Cox, and David Schwimmer as well as Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow. I watched this show to laugh although the first season was not as funny compared to the later ones. Here are my favorite episodes from every season and what I think showcases the best one for all the six major actors/actresses. The characters were Chandler Bing played by Matthew Perry, Monica Geller played by Courteney Cox, and Dr. Ross Geller by David Schwimmer, Rachel Green by Jennifer Aniston, Phoebe Buffay by Lisa Kudrow, and Joey Tribbiani by Matt LeBlanc.

December 13, 2019: TV Review of Family Ties
This is the second time I binge watched this show since it first aired in 1982. I watched all seven seasons, noticing Mallory’s haircut changed and everyone got younger in a few episodes that were out of order. Despite this continuity jump, it was a trip down memory lane with seeing guest stars before they “made it” in Hollywood. Tom Hanks, Julia Louis Dreyfus, and There are many great episodes in this show. It was hard to choose just one for each season. The fact Michael J. Fox is way shorter than Michael Gross is a little bit of an eyesore, but it made for hilarious comedy between them. I picked the best episode in each season and the best episode showcasing the acting chops of the major and some of the recurring actors/actresses. The daily life of the Keaton family premiered in September 1982 and concluded in April 1989.
Season 1 = “Margin of Error” is the 16th episode where Alex secretly uses his parents’ money to invest in the stock market.
Season 2 = “The Harder They Fall” is the 3rd episode where Steven and Elyse can’t keep their cool around Alex’s teacher during parent/teacher conferences due to his rudeness.
Season 3 = “Here We Go Again” is the 2nd episode where Elyse has to tell the family she is pregnant again after they come back from a camping trip.
Season 4 = “Mr. Wrong” is the 3rd episode where Steven and Elyse aren’t fond on Mallory’s new boyfriend, Nick, and invite him over to dinner.
Season 5 = “My Mother, My Friend” is the 12th episode where Mallory’s friend has more in common with Elyse and she becomes jealous of them.
Season 6 = “The Play’s the Thing” is the 18th episode where Steven convinces Elyse to star in his play and then gets jealous of her co-star.
Season 7 = “Rain Forests Keep Falling on My Head” is the 21st episode where Jennifer is obsessed with saving the environment and enforces rules for the whole family to follow.
*******
Best episode of Elyse Keaton played by Meredith Baxter = It’s in season seven, episode 26, where Elyse can’t be happy for Alex that he is moving to New York.
Best episode of Steven Keaton played by Michael Gross = It’s in season three, episode 16, where Steven plays Thomas Jefferson in Alex’s dream.
Best episode of Alex P. Keaton played by Michael J. Fox = It’s in season four, episode 1, where Alex falls for an art student instead of his original pick from a magazine. Ellen is played by Tracy Pollan.
Best episode of Mallory Keaton played by Justine Bateman = It’s in season three, episode 15, where Mallory is the most affected by the death of Aunt Trudy.
Best episode of Jennifer Keaton played by Tina Yothers = It’s in season four, episode 7, where Jennifer acts her age around Alex’s math tutor who is also her age. Eugene Forbes is played by River Phoenix.
Best episode of Andrew Keaton played by Brian Bonsall = It’s in season six, episode 6, where Andrew is jealous of Lauren, Alex’s new girlfriend. Lauren is played by Courteney Cox.
Best episode of Skippy Handelman played by Marc Price = It’s in season two, episode 19, where Skippy finds out he’s adopted and sees his birth mother.
Best episode of Nick Moore played by Scott Valentine = It’s in season four, episode 8, where Nick tries to impress Steven and Elyse by being more like Alex.
Best episode of Lauren Miller played by Courteney Cox = It’s in season seven, episode 1, where Lauren has to deal with Alex in her study about overachievers.

According to IMDb, 30 for 30 has four seasons, but on Wikipedia it says it has three seasons plus ESPN Films Presents, Shorts, and Soccer Stories. I’ve only seen three episodes so far: The Price of Gold about Nancy Kerrigan and Tonya Harding, The Prince of Pennsylvania about John du Pont and Mark and Dave Schultz, and The Good, The Bad, The Hungry about Takeru Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut. This documentary styled series about various sports and its culture allows me to learn new things. Hot dog eating shouldn’t rank high on the sports list. Calling them athletes is ridiculous and any sport that requires great physical conditioning and endurance is ten, twenty, or more times legitimate than finding the best way to soak a hot dog bun so it goes down easier. Yet, these contestants were interesting, as they devoted their whole life to taking part of eating challenges. Next up the episode about Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.

With the success of Who Do You Think You Are? original British version, the producers decided to come out with the American version. It premiered in 2010 with Sarah Jessica Parker, Emmitt Smith, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Broderick, Brooke Shields, Susan Sarandon, and Spike Lee. From there it continued with Mocean Melvin as the narrator in the next seasons with the 10th being the last season to be aired. It focused on the genealogies of Mandy Moore, Josh Duhamel, Regina King, and Matthew Morrison. The show started on NBC, moved to TLC, and returned back to NBC for its 11th season with 13 episodes that hopefully will be released in 2020. All the episodes are great to watch and I actually prefer this show over Finding Your Roots as viewers have the ability more to see the guests traveling to the cities and countries their ancestors once lived and how it has impacted the family members still alive.

Even with the Ben Affleck snafu of hiding his less favorable ancestral members, Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr, is a good show. The most recent ones I’ve seen is from season four with Fred Armisen and season five with George R.R. Martin. Sometimes they uncover unsavory parts of the family while other discoveries point to the positive. Fred Armisen thought he was part Japanese, but his grandfather turned out to be a Korean dancer who took a Japanese name. George R.R. Martin held the belief he was part Italian from a grandfather who left his grandmother. When his DNA was tested, he had not a drop of Italian blood in him, but found out he was 22.4% Ashkenazi Jew. In other words, the grandfather he figured that left his family for another woman turned out not the be the case. The guests from the episodes travel within and outside the U.S. to find their ancestral historical lineage and the secrets of their family, often having them rethink their long-held beliefs. This type of show outweighs its criticism because while there are similarities among us with DNA, knowing one’s personal history should be viewed as good even when it includes the bad.

Where do I start with DWTS? Probably the beginnning. Seasons 10 to 21 were the best. They had a great set of professional dancers with Derek Hough, Mark Ballas, Cheryl Burke, Julianne Hough, Karina Smirnoff, Peta Murgatroyd, and the say what’s on my mind Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The dance group was great to watch too. There were two seasons in each year. The best was the one during Halloween although the spring season was decent too. When Derek Hough (I met him once and even got a picture despite never talking to him) permanently left the show along with Mark Ballas, and Karina Smirnoff, the show began to really take a nose dive in the shallow end of the pool. I know Erin Andrews is already locked into place as one of the hosts, but bring back Brooke Burke please. As much as I would love the challenge of being on the show (that I know will NEVER happen because I’m not famous nor would I ever subject myself to this kind of embarrassment for I have no rhythm), the DWTS competitors have gotten to the point of scraping the bottom of the barrel. In the words of one of my friends, “we’re now at the point of murderers (Ray Lewis) and liars (Sean Spicer).” It’s no secret many watchers boycotted DWTS due to Sean Spicer as a competitor. I was one of them until I couldn’t stay away anymore. I usually skipped over Spicer’s dances if I was streaming it or changed the channel when he came on if it was live. All I can say is despite some of the stupidity of this show, I’m glad he finally was voted off. DWTS didn’t need a repeat of last season’s winner of Bobby Bones. Let it be no more popularity contest and even though my family doesn’t understand why I watch this terrible show I’m looking forward to seeing who gets first place. My prediction is James Van Der Beek and Emma or Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber will win the mirror ball trophy. Now that it’s only airing once a year, I will probably be back in 2020, but no more political competitors, just a thought. I included a list of first, second, and third winners below.
