Some people think football, basketball, and baseball are the sports only worth watching. I would skip all of these although I could watch basketball without wanting to poke my eyes out with a pencil. I like watching the Olympics, both winter and summer, and MMA and some boxing matches. There’s something about MMA that’s exciting because you never know how much blood you will see, how long the match will last, and the unexpected that sometimes happens. Long gone are the days of Georges St. Pierre as he’s been retired for seven years now. A lot of the title holders I’m not familiar with but this debut of MMA on Netflix brought back seasoned fighters I enjoyed seeing.
Sure, it’s a brutal sport because it’s primarily a contact sport. Bones are broken, healed cuts open and bleed, unconsciousness might happen when the fighter is knocked out. Whether you see it as a barbaric form of entertainment or a testament to strength, endurance, and skill, maybe it’s a combination of both. Nothing is completely black and white but if fighters enjoy training and fighting, then I see nothing wrong with it. I’m not writing this to apologize for what I enjoy watching but to say human competition will forever be a part of human existence. There is also a thing called retirement and some fighters might give more thought after their outcomes.
Don’t read any further if you don’t want to know the fight outcomes if you have not watched this Netflix MMA debut show.
Robelis Despaigne knocks out Junior Dos Santos in round 1 of 3.
Salahdine Parnasse knocks out Kenneth Cross in round 1 of 3.
Francis Ngannou knocks out Philipe Lins in round 1 out of 5.
Mike Perry wins basically knocks out Nate Diaz and there was a doctor stoppage in round 2 out of 5.
Rhonda Rousey submitted Gina Carano in round 1 out of 5. This was done in 17 seconds.
After knowing who won and lost, like most every other sport, the established fighters earn the most money. Rousey earned 2.2 million while Carano won 1.05 million. Perry earned 400 grand while Diaz earned 500 grand. Ngannou earned 1.5 million while Philipe earned 100 grand. With the money in the pockets of the fighters, there will be more fights. Who actually fights again will remain to be seen, but I would like to see more fights of Rousey but I don’t think that will happen. She wants to grow her family. Nate Diaz will probably be back to fight again with Perry or someone else because it is in his blood. I would not mind seeing Carano fighting again so she can prove herself again. No matter what the future holds, it’s better for the fighters to fight because unlike them, I don’t care to be punched on the body or face or have my fingers broken. I understand the physical effects of taking hits to the body over and over and while I wouldn’t pay money to see an MMA fight in person currently, I wouldn’t rule it out.
