This is by far one of the best TV shows based on true story military conception, training, and combat I’ve seen in a while. SAS: Rogue Heroes is a historical drama series about the British Army Special Air Service during WWII. This adaptation is based on Ben Macintyre’s book. The series has two seasons so far and hopefully it will be renewed for a third season. There is high speculation there will be a third season, but it hasn’t been confirmed.

The first season focuses on the beginnings of the elite parachute team in Libya to take out German and Italian planes and ammunition. At the helm are David Stirling and Jock Lewes and the initial reluctant Paddy Mayne. As the team trains and carries out their missions, it comes with losses and betrayals. This forces the SAS to partner with French soldiers but training them is not an easy task for Paddy Mayne. The second season ends with one of the SAS team members captured by German forces.

The second season focuses on Paddy Mayne advancing in the British army ranks. The only problem is he keeps butting heads with the top military leaders and Bill Stirling. As differences are put aside, the SAS capture an Italian town and work with the resistance against the Germans. While David Stirling is on a different mission, the remaining SAS members return to England and then travel to Scotland for more training. The last episode deals with SAS members parachuting before the invasion of Normandy.

While all the cast is great, a few actors stand out and make the show absolutely a must see. I’ve already watched this twice and would gladly watch it again. The two actors that made the show are Connor Swindells as David Stirling and Jack O’Connell as Paddy Mayne. Their relationship and how it unfolds on screen is absolutely first rate. The other cast members are equally great in their roles (not including all cast here) like Alfie Allen as Jock Lewes, Corin Silva as Jim Almonds, Sofia Boutella as Eve Mansour, Theo Barklem-Biggs as Reg Seekings, Dominic West as Dudley Clarke, Gwilym Lee as Bill Stirling, Mark Rowley as Jock McDiarmid, and Stuart Campbell as Bill Fraser.

I rate SAS: Rogue Heroes FOUR FINGERS and ONE THUMB at 100%.
