How Blue Can You Be With Sonic?
It seems the diehard fans were not happy with the original release of Sonic. The eyes were too small and the fur wasn’t as sharp and well fur looking from my observation. Fast forward to when it was released in February 2020 and most of the fans were happy with the update. When I sat down to watch this, I knew nothing about Sonic except it was a character that moved fast. Unlike the other reviews that are sometimes longer than should be, I’m making this quite shorter because the movie sort of speaks for itself. It begins with Sonic running through the street of San Francisco, California. He’s basically a blue blur in present time and eventually he takes you back to his days when living on an island and how he ended up on Earth. Time passes and Sonic has still not made any real friends until he meets Tom Wachowski, the sheriff of a small town. In Green Hills, Montana, there’s not much to do but that doesn’t mean Sonic can’t get into trouble. This brings attention to himself and now has Dr. Robotnik wanting a piece of him. His options are limited but one thing is for certain and that is he must go to San Francisco to increase his chances of survival. Along the way he actually finds himself enjoying life, what it has to offer, and it becomes clear to him what he must do for himself, Tom, and his wife, Maddie. The movie ends as expected with the major characters getting what they deserve whether it be a nice dinner at Olive Garden or having a nice conversation with some mushrooms.

Overall View of Sonic
The highlight of this movie as you can probably figure out is Jim Carrey. I don’t know much the version of Dr. Robotnik in the game, but he really captured the essence of a mad nemesis to Sonic. I would also say Marsden’s interaction with Carrey and Sonic was high level comedic acting. The second highlight of this movie was the story played out. While there was good versus evil theme, some of the scenes had a game like feel to it. I believe these were some of the best ones. I especially liked the one of Sonic visiting the different countries and who wouldn’t like Dr. Robotnik’s electronic minions. This is definitely a children’s movie, but it has enough content for adults. I had no idea what to expect but I enjoyed it from start to finish. While there were some “mushy” moments, it’s a movie I wouldn’t mind seeing again. As for another sequel, there more than likely will be one.
I rate Sonic the Hedgehog GREAT at 90%.
