TV Show Review: New Girl (2011-2018)

Yeah, I saw through space and time for a minute but that’s not the point!

I’m in way over my head, Nick. I’m doing something terrible.

The reason I started watching this show was needing something comedic to watch. The first four seasons were the strongest with the last three seasons having certain episodes that weren’t as funny. This is definitely a similar show to a whole bunch of single people living together in a big city (this one L.A.) that over time become romantically involved with each other with a lot of ups and downs in between. This show is somewhat realistic in that all the characters living in the huge loft can afford it unlike another show I won’t name but still think is funny. The characters include Jessica Day as an energetic teacher, Nick Miller as a slacker bartender, Winston Schmidt as a competitive marketing agent, Ernie Tagliaboo as a no excuses coach, Cecilia Parikh as a model, and Winston L’Andre Bishop as a lost and wandering person.

I’ve never seen you stand like that.

The show is created by Elizabeth Meriwether. Each episode runs 22 minutes long. New Girl is rated TV-14 and ran from 2011 to 2018. The main cast is Zooey Deschanel as Jess, Jake Johnson as Nick, Max Greenfield as Schmidt, Damon Wayans, Jr. as Coach, Lamorne Morris as Winston, and Hannah Simone as Cece. There is recurring cast with Justin Long as Paul, Dermot Mulroney as Russell, Rebecca Reid as Nadia, Nelson Franklin as Robby, Rob Reiner as Bob, Merritt Wever as Elizabeth, Linda Cardellini as Abby, Jamie Lee Curtis as Joan, Peter Gallagher as Gavin, Nasim Pedrad as Aly, Megan Fox as Reagan, Curtis Armstrong as Principal Foster, and Steve Agee as Outside Dave.

I literally haven’t said a word for, like, over an hour.

Season 1 best episode is 10 called “The Story of the 50” that aired on January 17, 2012 about Schmidt being disappointed with his 29^th birthday celebration.

Season 2 best episode is 8 called “Parents” that aired on November 2, 2012 about Jess’ parents coming over for Thanksgiving and a competition arises between two Schmidt family members.

Season 3 best episode is 6 called “Keaton” that aired on October 22, 2013 about Michael Keaton sending letters of encouragement to Schmidt.

Season 4 best episode is 19  called “The Right Thing” on March 31, 2015 about Schmidt needing his Bar Mitzvah money to become part owner of a bar with Nick.

Season 5 best episode is 1 called “Big Mama P” on January 5, 2016 about Nick picking up Cece’s mother from the airport for her engagement party

Season 6 best episode is 9 called “Es Good” on December 6, 2016 about Jess and Robby become competitive about being on a double date.

Season 7 best episode is 8 called “Engram Pattersky” on May 15, 2018 about Winston’s final prank he pulls on his friends but not before they play True American.

The best all time episode is from season 3, episode 14 called “Prince” that aired on February 2, 2014 about Jess and Cece being invited to a party hosted by Prince.
